The Brothers Grimm: The Golden Goose

Fairytales are magical, mysterious and adventurous. They are most often the first stories we come across as children, illustrated books the first form of literature in our hands. Together with them we learn to slay dragons, lift curses or what happiness truly is in life. And although they are telling tales in the realm of the fantastic, there is always some truth in them.
For my BA degree project I designed and illustrated a picture book for the story “The Golden Goose” written down by the brothers Grimm.
The concept for the design is based on paper-cut and silhouette art very popular in the 19th century. The goal was to combine simplicity and detail to create expressive illustrations.
